The Iowa City Area Association of REALTORS has wrapped up its summer school supplies drive, contributing to United Way of Johnson and Washington Counties’ Ready, Set, School event, which supports more than 1,800 K–12 students in Johnson and Washington counties.
Held Aug. 15–16 at the Johnson County Fairgrounds, the annual event provides free backpacks, school supplies, dental and vision exams, vaccinations, and haircuts to help students prepare for the new school year.
Ready, Set, School is a collaborative effort among United Way of Johnson and Washington Counties, The Salvation Army, Neighborhood Centers of Johnson County, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Johnson County and Open Heartland.
ICAAR coordinated its donation drive from late June through early August by engaging member brokerages, affiliate businesses and community partners to host collection bins. A total of 23 brokerages and 35 drop-off sites participated in the effort.
The campaign collected more than 90 backpacks and a wide range of supplies including notebooks, pencils, crayons, markers, folders and glue sticks.
“This drive was a great example of how generous and engaged our REALTOR members are,” said Megan Flewellyn, executive officer of ICAAR, in a release. “We’re proud to support the incredible work happening within our communities, and this project was a fun and meaningful way for so many brokerage offices and affiliates to come together and make a difference for local families.”
ICAAR said the effort reflects its ongoing commitment to giving back to the communities its members serve.
The Iowa City Area Association of REALTORS is a trade association representing more than 500 residential and commercial real estate professionals in the Iowa City area. The organization provides access to the Multiple Listing Service, professional development programs, advocacy, and networking opportunities.
