OPN Architects is an architecture firm located in downtown Cedar Rapids that has worked on several high-profile flood recovery projects, including the Paramount Theatre restoration, the new downtown public library and the convention center, hotel and arena in Cedar Rapids, and the restoration of Hancher Auditorium in Iowa City.

In its survey, employees noted various perks about working at OPN Architects,

“Flexible time, so I can drop my kids off and pick them up from school, ISU vs. Iowa tailgate in our parking lot, additional time off during summer months, meals provided once a week during summer months and/or peak business times, two-day, company-wide summer retreats to Chicago, Minneapolis, Wisconsin, etc., holiday ‘bonus’ gifts like iPads, TVs and a shopping trip to Best Buy. They have also invested in a cool environment that is open, views to the city with a lot of flexibility and places to collaborate with co-workers.”

Another employee cited the company retreats, as well.

“A full, two-day, company-wide retreat to a major Midwestern city every year with tours, 4-star-plus hotel, great company dinner, drinks and dancing.”

OPN started in Marion with five employees in 1979 and now employs 82 people, with 52 in Cedar Rapids and 30 in its Des Moines office. When OPN began taking on projects from the University of Iowa during the early 1990s, OPN became known as a regional firm.
