What was your first job? I worked at Hallmark all throughout high school and part of college. I loved helping individuals pick out the right card or gift for all of the special occasions.
What do you consider your "big break" in your career, so far? My "big break" was my decision to pursue my Master in Medical Education (MME) at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. This really helped me to evolve as a physician and as a medical educator. The relationships, collaborations, and skills I developed during this time made a huge impact on the family physician, medical educator, and leader I am today.
What’s the biggest issue facing the Corridor, and why? Accessibility and interconnectivity within the region. It can be hard to travel to and within the Corridor with the limitations of flight options, buses, trains, and public transportation. If we can develop our accessibility and interconnectivity, we can more easily recruit and retain top-notch individuals and young professionals to stay in the area and grow our workforce.
Best advice you ever received? The best advice I ever received came from my grandfather, Leon. He was an orphan and a self-made businessman. I recall a saying he had hanging in his office that still rings true with me and my siblings today, "The harder you work, the luckier you get."
What are your passions outside of the workplace? Hiking in the mountains, exploring our national parks, traveling to new places, reading, watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, and following the Indiana Fever.
