Business Insurance magazine has ranked the University of Iowa Tippie College of Business as having the nation’s third-largest risk management and insurance undergraduate program in its 2025 survey.

The program, now in its third year, enrolled 350 undergraduate students as of October 2025, trailing only the University of Georgia and University of Wisconsin, according to the magazine’s annual rankings. The Iowa program climbed from fifth place in last year’s survey when enrollment stood at 263 students. Current enrollment has reached 445 students.

Among the survey’s top 10 programs, total enrollment grew by 140 students this year, with Iowa accounting for 87 of that increase, or 62%, according to Jim Lewis, director of Tippie’s Vaughan Institute of Risk Management and Insurance.

“Programs like Tippie’s are an important part of helping to keep the industry moving forward and to reach the next generation, inspiring them and equipping them to be future ready,” Mr. Lewis said.

The college also maintains the fourth-largest graduate-level enrollment nationally through its Iowa MBA with a risk management and insurance focus, he noted.

The growth comes as the insurance industry faces significant workforce challenges, with nearly half of industry professionals expected to reach retirement age within the next decade, Mr. Lewis said.

Iowa’s program serves as the state’s only undergraduate risk management and insurance program, creating a talent pipeline for an industry that represents a significant portion of Iowa’s economy and employs thousands of workers statewide.
