Two employees at The Hotel at Kirkwood Center received recognition at the Iowa Restaurant Association’s 2025 Iowa Hospitality Showcase, held recently at the Iowa Events Center in Des Moines.
Catering Sales Manager Ande Long was named to the 40 Women to Watch in the Hospitality Industry list, while Executive Chef Jim Vido earned runner-up honors in the showcase’s annual Iowa Culinary Competition.
Ms. Long was recognized for her dedication to creating memorable experiences for guests while serving as a mentor to Kirkwood hospitality students.
Mr. Vido placed second among 12 chefs in a two-part statewide culinary competition that challenged participants to prepare a Beef Tri-Tip Roast entrée using locally sourced ingredients and Iowa-made products.
“Ande and Jim are shining examples of the passion and professionalism that make The Hotel at Kirkwood Center truly special,” said Hotel at Kirkwood Center General Manager Jackie Bohr. “Ande brings heart and leadership to every project, inspiring both her team and our students. Jim’s dedication to culinary excellence sets the standard for what’s possible in a teaching hotel environment. I couldn’t be prouder of the talent, creativity and mentorship they bring to our guests and future hospitality professionals every day.”
The Hotel at Kirkwood Center is located on the campus of Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids. The hotel is Iowa’s only AAA Four Diamond teaching hotel and features The Class Act Restaurant.
