UnityPoint Health – St. Luke’s Hospital will host its annual NICU reunion Oct. 19 from 3 to 6 p.m., welcoming former graduates and their families to reconnect with the providers and nurses who cared for them.
Among those planning to attend is 8-year-old Charlie Eichhorn, who spent his first 67 days in St. Luke’s Level III NICU after being born at 28 weeks, weighing 3 pounds, 3 ounces.
“St. Luke’s NICU doctors and nurses were incredible,” said Katie Eichhorn, Charlie’s mother. “They explained everything, called with updates when we couldn’t be there, and made sure we felt confident leaving Charlie in their care. We trusted them completely.”
“Every child who passes through our NICU has a unique journey, but the bond between families and caregivers lasts for years,” said St. Luke’s Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Amy Wilson. “Charlie’s story reflects the extraordinary outcomes possible with a Level III NICU and a team dedicated to the tiniest patients.”
The free event will take place on the North Parking Ramp behind the hospital at 1026 A Ave. NE, near the SurgiCare entrance. No registration is required.
The event will feature door prizes, touch-a-truck opportunities with the LifeGuard helicopter, Area Ambulance and local fire trucks. Attendees are encouraged to wear costumes and participate in trunk-or-treat stations.
