Shive-Hattery has acquired Montgomery Roth Architecture & Interior Design, a 14-person Houston firm specializing in gaming, hospitality and multi-family housing.
The acquisition marks Shive-Hattery’s third office in the Southwest, following expansions to Tucson, Arizona, in 2022 and Tempe, Arizona, in 2023.
Montgomery Roth will operate as a division of Shive-Hattery, with founders John Montgomery and Lisa Roth continuing as principals of the Houston office.

“Shive-Hattery and Montgomery Roth share a strong cultural alignment, with both placing the highest priority on investing in our people,” said Jennifer Bennett, president and CEO of Shive-Hattery. “As a learning organization, we know that these investments yield lasting returns that are seen in the influence we have, the innovations we create, and the culture we build together.”
W. Peter Maruska, Shive-Hattery’s gaming and hospitality market leader, said the acquisition will enhance the firm’s capabilities in those sectors.
“This acquisition will allow us to continue to shape the future and evolve the gaming and hospitality market,” Mr. Maruska said. “Our enhanced capabilities will help us deliver a level of service that not only meets, but exceeds our clients’ expectations.”
Mr. Montgomery founded Montgomery Roth nearly 28 years ago.
“Joining Shive-Hattery allows us to honor that legacy while creating new opportunities for our clients and employees,” Mr. Montgomery said.
Ms. Roth said the acquisition positions Montgomery Roth for growth.
“As part of a larger company, we’ll have the strength and scale to accomplish even more,” she said.
Shive-Hattery is a 650-person architecture and engineering firm with 17 offices in 10 states. The firm is headquartered in Cedar Rapids.
