What was your first job? First job: delivering newspapers, beginning at age 6. First high school job: dietary services at Cedar Falls Lutheran Home.
Best advice you ever received? Very few of us can go out and change the world overnight. But you can change your world. Start small, start serving locally where you see need, and the ripple effects will astound you.
What do you consider your biggest break so far? While our progress and success in developing Houses into Homes rapidly could be considered my biggest break, I am simply grateful that we have been able to grow quickly to help meet the needs of our fellow community members.
What would most people be surprised to learn about you? I struggle with a variety of mental health use issues every single day. In spite of that battle, I manage to be extremely productive and able to connect and engage with a multitude of community members.
What’s the biggest issue facing the Corridor and why? Both keeping talented and skilled folks here in the Corridor, and broadly connecting their time and talents with others.
If you had a million dollars to give, what causes would you support? I would give directly to folks in need to eliminate overhead and administrative costs.
What are your passions outside of the workplace? I have always been extremely passionate about volunteering in my community, beginning at age seven.
What is something people should know about your generation in the workplace? We are innovative, passionate and care deeply for workspaces in broader communities.
What do you want to accomplish by the time you are 50? I hope that I have inspired others in my community to follow some of the best advice I have ever received – that we should dream big and start by changing our own world.
