David Hamod, president and CEO of the National U.S.-Arab Chamber of Commerce, recently received the University of Iowa’s International Impact Award at a ceremony in Iowa City.
The award recognizes Mr. Hamod’s work in diplomacy and promoting cultural understanding throughout his career.
Mr. Hamod, a University of Iowa alumnus, has worked as an advocate connecting peoples and cultures globally.
“I am honored and humbled to receive this award from the University of Iowa,” Mr. Hamod said in a release. “It has been my great privilege to connect peoples and cultures over the years from all around the globe. This includes Americans living overseas, who play an instrumental role in promoting American culture and values worldwide.”
University of Iowa President Barbara Wilson said Mr. Hamod’s work as a citizen diplomat and advocate for international commerce made him a fitting recipient.
“It is wonderful that the University of Iowa has chosen to recognize David Hamod for his tireless work as a citizen diplomat and an advocate for international commerce and economic cooperation,” Ms. Wilson said. “David is a most fitting recipient of Iowa’s International Impact Award, and we are grateful for his enduring commitment to promoting cross-cultural understanding.”
The University of Iowa International Programs established the International Impact Award in 2010 to honor individuals who have made sustained contributions internationally or in the United States to promote global understanding.
The National U.S.-Arab Chamber of Commerce serves as a commercial gateway between the United States and the Middle East and North Africa region. The chamber has more than 50,000 members and stakeholders in the U.S. and across the Middle East and North Africa.
