The Johnson County Agricultural Association elected new leadership during its annual meeting this week. The organization named Andy Tomas as board president, it announced Nov. 11.
Mr. Tomas, a Swisher farmer and Army veteran, will lead the executive board alongside Vice President Dave Greazel, Treasurer Jamie Tomas and Secretary Rich Rourke.
The board of directors includes Jim Balmer, Mike Ciliberto, John Isaacs, Andy Sterba, Wyatt Stumpf and David Woodruff.
“My life has been rooted in service and agriculture,” Mr. Tomas said, in a statement. “If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that we must keep improving and adapting. The Agricultural Association and Fairgrounds are true community cornerstones that bring every resident of Johnson County together – no matter if you live in a one-bedroom apartment or on 100 acres – all are welcome and invited.”
The nonprofit organization traces its roots to 1853 when it was formed as the Johnson County Agricultural Mechanical Society. The current association was established in 1949 and purchased the fairgrounds in 1952, where it serves as a “hub for agriculture, education, and community growth,” a press release stated.
