Applications are open for a series of grants supporting local LGBTQ+ and allied-owned restaurants, cafes, and bars serving food.
The National LGBT Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC) Community Impact Grant Program, in partnership with the Iowa LGBTQ Chamber of Commerce and supported by the Grubhub Community Fund, is offering eligible businesses $5,000-$25,000.
Businesses can use the funding for a variety of purposes such as enhancing security measures, acquiring new equipment, engaging in community initiatives, marketing and PR efforts, bolstering digital and e-commerce presence, procurement of products, implementing staff training programs, supporting employee wages and incentives, maintaining or upgrading existing infrastructure, in addition to other things.
To be eligible for the grants, a business must:
- Be an LGBTQ+-owned or LGBTQ+ ally-owned restaurant, bar or café that serves food
- Provide proof that establishment is LGBTQ+ or allied-owned
- Have not received more than two NGLCC Community Impact Grants in previous years.

Free virtual workshops are being offered for businesses Monday, May 20 from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. and Wednesday, May 22 from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. to aid in the application process. Iowa LGBTQ Chamber of Commerce member and professional grant writer, Bahnsen Consulting, will teach how to best present a business in completing the NGLCC and Grubhub Community Impact grant application.
