What was your first job? Church pianist.
Best advice you ever received? “Don’t live it twice.” We often spend so much time worrying about what “will” or “has” happened that we lose the ability to savor each moment.
What do you consider your biggest break so far? I don’t know that I have experienced a “biggest break” per se, but have been so fortunate to find people who cared about me, as a person, and my clinical/research passions.
What would most people be surprised to learn about you? I was a two-time all-state pianist in high school.
What’s the biggest issue facing the Corridor, and why? Luckily we live in a community with excellent medical care for children. Unfortunately, we regularly experience gaps in our local/regional infrastructure for families/children with chronic illness. For example, we have minimal short and long-term rehabilitation/transitional care options for children requiring rigorous medical therapies, such as dialysis.
If you had $1 million to give, what causes would you support? Children and families with chronic illnesses, such as kidney transplant recipients, face tremendous strain and stress financially and emotionally. I would give $1 million in a heartbeat to develop a “kidney house” for families receiving kidney-related care at UIHC.
What are your passions outside of the workplace? I love spending time with my kids and husband. Additionally, I love finding time to play piano for our church.
What do you want to accomplish by the time you are 50? I am so proud of my career path, but even more so, I simply want to raise my children as loving, hard-working individuals.
