Senior Talent Development Consultant Transamerica AGE: 38 What was your first job? Teaching dance and a cashier at Hy-Vee. Best advice you ever received? A coach of mine, Russ Telecky, used to say: “Excuses only satisfy those who make them.”  What do you consider your biggest break so far? Being born into the family that I have. My parents are supportive, knowledge-focused, patient and compassionate. From childhood to now, they have encouraged and supported my passions.  What would most people be surprised to learn about you? I grew up with a full-size craps table in my basement. My parents loved the game and would host craps parties and even had a craps club.  What’s the biggest issue facing the Corridor, and why? Sustainability. This reaches beyond the Corridor, but climate change, consumerism, and wasteful habits are contributing to an unsustainable way of life. I’d like to see a mindset shift within our community, and affordable solutions offered on a broader scale. If you had $1 million to give, what causes would you support? I would set up a foundation to offer music and sports scholarships for K-12 students to pay for their training. Other causes I value are local small businesses, youth mentoring, nature-based organizations and local arts organizations. What are your passions outside of the workplace? Dance is my artistic outlet. I teach mostly ballet two nights a week at Extensions Dance Academy.  What’s something people should know about your generation in the workplace? I’m a “cusper,” born on the cusp between Gen X and the millennial. Overall, we have a strong work ethic, are technologically sound and have a healthy level of humility.  What do you want to accomplish by the time you are 50? I’d like to move into a leadership role, or more of an executive coach position at Transamerica.
