Iowa Donor Network has named Philip Blumberg as its new chief executive officer, succeeding Suzanne Conrad, who served in the role for 28 years. The leadership transition will take place in mid-October.

Mr. Blumberg currently serves as chief clinic administrative officer at Des Moines University, where he has worked since 2012. As part of the university’s executive leadership team, he oversaw the growth of the multispecialty Des Moines University Clinic from one location to three across Des Moines and West Des Moines, and expanded services to include behavioral health and sports performance.

“Philip has demonstrated success as a leader,” Iowa Donor Network Board Chair Mike Hensch said in a statement. “We look forward to this next chapter for Iowa Donor Network and continuing to operate at the highest level as a Tier 1 organization. With an extensive background leading healthcare organizations, Philip’s strategic thinking and communication skills are a great match for Iowa Donor Network, and we know his genuine concern for people and their wellbeing will serve our team, donor families, and partners well as we continue to transform lives through organ and tissue donation.”

Mr. Blumberg, a nearly lifelong Iowan, said he is honored to lead the organization.

“It is an honor to join Iowa Donor Network and build upon the amazing legacy that has defined this organization for decades,” he said. “As a nearly life-long Iowan, I understand the deep sense of community and generosity that help drive our mission. It’s humbling to be trusted with this role and lead such an excellent team of compassionate professionals. I am grateful to the Board of Directors for their confidence in me, and I am deeply committed to advancing our work to transform lives through organ and tissue donation.”

Mr. Blumberg has more than 20 years of experience in healthcare, including roles as director of radiation oncology and the CyberKnife Center at Mercy Des Moines and in program development for neuroscience and orthopedics at a community hospital in metropolitan New York. He has served on nonprofit boards and was a past Des Moines Business Record Forty Under 40 honoree.

A Des Moines native and West Des Moines Valley graduate, Blumberg holds both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s in health administration from the University of Iowa. He lives in West Des Moines with his wife and two daughters.

Iowa Donor Network is Iowa’s sole organ procurement organization and one of 55 federally certified nonprofit organizations that make up the nation’s organ donation network. The organization works with healthcare professionals, donor families and community partners to facilitate organ and tissue donation, support donor families and educate Iowans about donation.
