The Iowa City Downtown District is forming four committees and task forces to guide its strategic work and is seeking applications from downtown property owners, business operators and stakeholders.

The committees will support ICDD’s mission to champion a thriving downtown economy, foster community and ensure welcoming experiences, according to an announcement Oct. 7. The new structure stems from the organization’s recently adopted strategic plan, which identified a need to expand and realign committees to better advance core priorities.

“We are excited to realign a number of our committees, introduce new ones, and welcome additional expertise and ideas surrounding our Strategic Plan for the organization,” Executive Director Betsy Potter said in a statement.

The committees will operate in advisory roles to the ICDD Board of Directors and will meet approximately once monthly for about an hour. Members are expected to prepare for meetings, research relevant topics and attend external events when applicable.

    ICDD is recruiting for:

Policy & Advocacy Committee, aimed at serving as the trusted voice for downtown. The organization seeks individuals with backgrounds in public policy, civic engagement, government relations, business advocacy or community organizing.

Economic Vitality Committee, focused on supporting a thriving downtown economy that integrates business, culture, residential life and public space. Ideal participants have experience in real estate, finance, entrepreneurship, business operations, market analytics or economic development.

Place Management Task Force, working to cultivate a vibrant downtown sense of place. The organization seeks artists, designers, urban planners, architects, engineers, public art advocates, preservation experts or creative thinkers in space activation.

Organizational Infrastructure Task Force, dedicated to building an effective, responsive and sustainable organization. Preferred participants have experience in nonprofit management, governance, fundraising, leadership development or organizational strategy. Prior ICDD committee or board experience is preferred for the first year.

Applications are open to property owners, business owners, authorized business representatives and key stakeholders located within the ICDD district. The deadline is 5 p.m. Oct. 15. Applicants will be notified of committee assignments by Oct. 30.

Because committees are intentionally small, not all applicants may be selected, but applications will be kept on file for future opportunities, according to the announcement.

The committee interest form is available on the ICDD website.
