Jane Drapeaux, CEO of Hawkeye Area Community Action Program Inc. (HACAP), will retire in December after nearly two decades leading the Eastern Iowa anti-poverty agency.

Ms. Drapeaux has served as CEO since 2007 and has been with HACAP for more than 25 years. During her tenure as CEO, the organization expanded its service area to nine counties across Eastern Iowa and grew annual revenues to more than $60 million.

“Under her leadership, the agency strengthened its programs to break down barriers and create opportunities for success for thousands of families each year,” HACAP said in its announcement.

Ms. Drapeaux’s leadership was particularly notable during the 2008 Cedar Rapids flood, when HACAP served as the central call center for United Way 2-1-1, connecting affected residents with disaster relief resources during what the organization described as “one of the worst natural disasters in U.S. history.”

Before becoming CEO, Ms. Drapeaux served as HACAP’s Head Start director. She began her career in Head Start programs, including work in South Dakota where she met her husband Dan.

The community action agency will begin searching for Ms. Drapeaux’s replacement. Qualified candidates for the CEO position may submit applications through Corridor Careers online.

HACAP serves 75,000 individuals annually through 45 programs focused on helping people develop skills and build strong communities.
