Applications are open for Greater Iowa City, Inc.’s Community Leadership Program, Iowa City’s longest standing, community-programmed leadership course.
The program gathers local leaders from a variety of industries for a year of hands-on learning, relationship building and community engagement. Participants gain insight into the challenges and resources specific to different industries, with the goal of equipping and fostering the next generation of leaders with a “holistic” understanding of the Iowa City area.
“The Community Leadership Program has a long legacy of cultivating thoughtful and passionate local leaders and illustrating the many ways they can contribute to our community’s flourishing,” said Mackenzie DeRoo, Greater IC senior director of advocacy. “We are excited to see how next year’s class will grow, learn, and positively impact the greater Iowa City area.”
The day-long sessions will occur each month from August 2025 to June 2026 and cover topics such as health care, economic development, agriculture and environment, and arts and culture.
“With CLP, you’re learning more about the needs of this community so you can plug in, and you’re building more relationships with people so that you can also serve them,” said past participant Hayley Crabb, membership and development director at FilmScene.
To date, the program has over 700 alumni, with many of them serving on community boards and commissions, elected to local office or filling leadership roles within their organization.
“Connecting and educating local leaders aligns with Greater IC’s approach of growing a resilient economy,” a release stated.
Applications are competitive, with 25 openings in a cohort. The deadline to apply is June 20. To learn more, visit www.greateriowacity.com/community-leadership-program.
