Economic Policy Institute revamps data library

Improved navigation, ability to create and share custom charts among new features of State of Working America

This week, the Economic Policy Institute (EPI) launched an updated and expanded version of its State of Working America data library, offering researchers, journalists and the public a user-friendly resource for tracking key labor market trends.

The revamped version now allows users to create and share custom charts, including time series visualizations and state-by-state comparisons. The update also expands the available data, offering views by state and various demographic segments.

The site has also undergone a significant usability upgrade, featuring improved navigation, a new search function, and enhanced documentation to help users access and interpret data more efficiently.

Compiled from the EPI’s analysis of government data sources, the comprehensive database provides historical and up-to-date insights into the American workforce covering a range of economic indicators, including:

  • Annual wages for select groups, including the top 1% and bottom 90% of earners
  • Racial and gender wage disparities
  • Unemployment rates, with state-by-state breakdowns
  • Poverty and inflation trends
  • Union membership rates and the union wage premium

The Economic Policy Institute is a think-tank located in Washington D.C. The nonprofit carries out economic research and analyzes the economic impact of federal policies and proposals.
