What was your first job? Babysitter.
Best advice you ever received? The unique qualities that sometimes cause a person to be self-conscious or uncertain are often the same qualities that cause them to be successful. Embrace your individuality.
What do you consider your biggest break so far? Meeting my mentor, Sarah Hansen, when I was 18. She took me under her wing, provided me with invaluable experiences and introduced me to public health.Â
What would most people be surprised to learn about you? I completed my high school equivalency in the U.K. and started college at 16.
What’s the biggest issue facing the Corridor, and why? Inequities in access to basic needs like food, housing, health care and child care. In order to grow a strong economy, our community needs to be cared for at the most basic level.
If you had $1 million to give, what causes would you support? Causes working to provide access to basic needs, like CommUnity Crisis Services and Food Bank, and access to affordable, quality child care for all families, like the Iowa Women’s Foundation
What are your passions outside of the workplace? Traveling, yoga, and experiencing the magic of the world through the eyes of my boys.
What’s something people should know about your generation in the workplace? We are trying to work like we don’t have families, and trying to raise our children like we don’t have careers. The pandemic has led to a shift in how we are approaching work and life.Â
What do you want to accomplish by the time you are 50? I hope to see progress in the investing of businesses and governments providing access to affordable, quality child care for all Iowa families.
