Local attorney Darin Luneckas has been named the 2026 “Lawyer of the Year” in Cedar Rapids for Workers’ Compensation Law – Claimants by The Best Lawyers in America.
The recognition is awarded to one attorney per practice area and geographic region. Mr. Luneckas was also included in the publication’s 32nd edition for his work in both Workers’ Compensation Law – Claimants and Personal Injury Litigation – Plaintiffs.
“To be named ‘Lawyer of the Year’ means a great deal to me – not because of the title, but because it’s based on the trust of fellow attorneys I’ve worked alongside and against,” Mr. Luneckas said in a release. “Their recognition tells me I’m doing right by my clients, and that motivates me to keep pushing for justice on their behalf.”
Best Lawyers selections are based entirely on peer feedback. The 2026 edition drew from more than 26 million evaluations, including 3.5 million responses this year. The process asks legal professionals how likely they would be to refer a case to a particular lawyer.

Mr. Luneckas, founder and sole attorney at Luneckas Law, P.C., has practiced for more than 25 years and previously served as president of the Linn County Bar Association. He has also served on the Iowa Association for Justice State Board of Governors and the State Court Nominating Commission for Iowa’s Sixth Judicial District.
