Can Shed has named Kids First Law Center as its featured nonprofit partner for the third quarter of 2025 through its “Containers for a Cause” program.

The Cedar Rapids-based redemption center will direct proceeds from donated beverage containers to the organization, which provides legal advocacy for children in custody and divorce proceedings. Kids First Law Center serves more than 2,500 children annually across Linn and Johnson counties.

Customers can contribute to the initiative by choosing to donate part or all of their container refund. Donations are also collected from unclaimed containers and undesignated contributions at Can Shed locations in Cedar Rapids, Marion, Hiawatha, Manchester and Iowa City.

Can Shed will match 20% of the total value of all containers donated during the quarter. The initiative has raised more than $65,000 for Eastern Iowa nonprofits since its launch in 2022.

The partnership is part of Can Shed’s broader Containers for a Cause effort, which partners with local organizations to raise funds through container redemption.

Can Shed is currently accepting applications for future nonprofit partners via its website at canshed.com/causes

Founded in 1997, Can Shed, with locations in Cedar Rapids, Marion, Hiawatha, Manchester and Iowa City, operates as a full-service redemption center in Eastern Iowa. It offers multiple container return options, including self-service machines, bulk-bag programs and the BottleDrop Iowa mobile app.
