The Cedar Rapids Ball Club has named Sean Brandhorst general manager of the Cedar Rapids Kernels, the organization announced Thursday, Oct. 16.

Mr. Brandhorst served as assistant general manager during the past season and previously worked as Midwest national director at Perfect Game USA.

A Central City native and University of Northern Iowa graduate, Mr. Brandhorst spent five years in various roles at Walt Disney World Resort, including positions with ESPN Wide World of Sports and the Atlanta Braves. He later oversaw NCAA Baseball Tournaments at Osceola County Stadium in Kissimmee, Florida, formerly the spring training home of the Houston Astros.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Mr. Brandhorst returned to the Midwest and worked with a summer collegiate baseball team in Madison, Wisconsin, where he led stadium operations and contributed to roster development.

“I am incredibly honored and do not take for granted what this role entails,” Mr. Brandhorst said in a release. “I feel fortunate to be appointed GM of a team that is so well regarded by the Minor League Baseball community, the Minnesota Twins, and the City of Cedar Rapids.”

Steve Brice, CEO of the Cedar Rapids Ball Club, said the promotion recognizes Mr. Brandhorst’s work and leadership with the organization.

Mr. Brandhorst succeeds Scott Wilson, who held the position for more than 14 years before recently being named the executive director of the NewBo Citdy Market.

The Kernels are the High-A affiliate of the Minnesota Twins.
