Local service and long-term relationships have driven decades of success for Hills Bank & Trust and its commercial real estate lending team. In addition to having strong knowledge of the market and staff with long tenure in commercial real estate lending, Hills Bank’s commercial team operates under the philosophy of past Hills Bank president, John Hughes: “Take care of the customer and the rest will take care of itself.” “We connect with our customers and build relationships that go beyond banker-customer,” Hills Bank vice president and marketing director Brenda Myers said. “As we work with and learn about our customers, we become vested in their businesses and their friendships.” Hills Bank is a Preferred Lender by the Small Business Association (SBA), offering loans backed by the federal agency without a lengthy application process. The bank also offers extensive treasury management accounts and services, 401K retirement plans and other services. During the COVID-19 crisis, Hills Bank’s commercial staff adapted quickly to remote work in order to provide support for businesses seeking Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans. The bank helped customers complete 2,500 PPP applications for approximately $185 million. “We continue to monitor the pandemic and the impact on our local businesses,” Ms. Myers said. “We want to see businesses flourish, and if that means assisting them with an operating loan, line of credit or a new SBA grant program, we are here to help connect them with the resources available.” 1st RUNNER UP: Cedar Rapids Bank & Trust 2nd RUNNER UP: GreenState Community Credit Union
