New doggy daycare and boarding facility opens in Marion

Dog Star Enrichment Pet Care is now open in Marion and will celebrate with a ribbon cutting at noon Friday, Dec. 15, at 3525 Third Ave.

The facility, owned by Sarah Chavis, provides doggy daycare and boarding for cats and dogs, mid-day dog walks, drop-in for cats, and pet waste removal from yards.

โ€œI wanted to create a business that aligns with my family values and allows me to contribute to the well-being of furry companions in the local community,โ€ said Ms. Chavis.

Enrichment pet care involves providing activities and experiences stimulating a petโ€™s mind, body, and senses. The approach incorporates mental challenges, physical exercise, social interaction, and sensory stimulation to enhance a petโ€™s overall well-being.

โ€œBy choosing an enrichment-focused doggy daycare, clients can expect a well-rounded and engaging experience for their dogs, providing peace of mind for pet owners,โ€ said Ms. Chavis.

In addition to pet care, Dog Star carries products made in the USA by family-owned companies; most are based in the Midwest. Products are made with simple ingredients with as few preservatives as possible; most are gluten-free.

Dog Star will also host Merry Grinchmas in collaboration with Hackles & Hide K9 Academy from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16. The event will raise money for Unleashed and A Purposeful Life pet rescues. Pet photos with the Grinch will be available for donation. Local vendors and crafters will be selling unique Christmas gifts. Pet owners should bring a current vaccination record and check in with staff before entering.
