The Common Sense Institute has added Juliet Abdel, president and CEO of the Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance, to its board of directors.

Ms. Abdel leads a network of more than 1,200 businesses focused on driving regional prosperity and economic vitality. She has previously served in senior leadership roles at chambers of commerce in Colorado and Kansas.

“Juliet’s leadership and experience in economic development make her a tremendous addition to our board,” said Lisa Feuerbach, executive director of the Common Sense Institute. “Her insight will help guide CSI’s continued work to provide data-driven research that informs smart policy and supports Iowa’s long-term prosperity.”

In a release, Ms. Abdel said the organization plays a key role in helping leaders understand policy impacts.

“Sustainable growth starts with informed decision-making,” she said. “The Common Sense Institute plays a vital role in helping leaders across Iowa understand how policy choices affect jobs, families, and long-term opportunity. I’m excited to bring my experience to their board to contribute to and advance their work.”

The Common Sense Institute, which announced its expansion into Iowa in January 2024, describes itself as a nonpartisan research organization that evaluates the fiscal and economic impacts of policies, initiatives and proposed laws.
