Veridian Credit Union has been named Iowa’s top credit union by Forbes for the second year in a row, Forbes and market research firm Statista announced June 24.

The annual Best-In-State Credit Unions ranking is based on consumer feedback and online reviews.

“Forbes’ Best-In-State Credit Unions list is meaningful because it’s based on our members’ feedback,” Veridian president and chief executive officer Renee Christoffer said in a release. “It’s a reflection of our partnership with our members to create their successful financial futures, so there’s no greater compliment we could receive.”

The ranking draws from an independent survey of around 26,000 U.S. consumers, who were asked to evaluate credit unions across six criteria: trust, terms and conditions, branch services, digital services, customer service and financial advice. Survey results accounted for 80% of the final score, with the remaining 20% based on a sentiment analysis of publicly available online reviews.

Respondents were asked how satisfied they were and how likely they were to recommend the U.S.-based banks and credit unions at which they have a checking or savings account, those at which they had an account within the last three years, and those they knew through friends and family. (Online-only banks and credit unions were excluded, as well as larger institutions with branches in 15 or more states.)

Additionally, Statista gathered more than 500,000 publicly available text reviews and ratings about each bank and credit union written between February 2022 and March 2025. This research was incorporated into the analysis. Ultimately, the institutions with the highest overall scores made the rankings.

Veridian Credit Union, headquartered in Waterloo and founded in 1934, is a member-owned financial cooperative. It operates 32 branches across Iowa, eastern Nebraska and the Minneapolis–St. Paul metropolitan area, and employs more than 1,000 staff. The organization offers a full suite of consumer and business financial services.

GreenState Credit Union, based in North Liberty, was ranked second in Iowa in the Forbes rankings. Cedar Rapids-based Collins Community Credit Union was ranked third, followed by Community Choice Credit Union, headquartered in Johnston, and Greater Iowa Credit Union, headquartered in Ames.
