The University of Iowa is asking lawmakers for $3.6 million in new state appropriations to expand rural physician training, a request discussed during the Iowa Board of Regents meeting Sept. 18.
By 2036, the U.S. is projected to face a shortage of 86,000 physicians, and with half of Iowa’s doctors trained at its Carver College of Medicine, the university says it is well positioned to help address the gap.
