UnityPoint Health – St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids has been named the top hospital in Iowa for the second consecutive year on Newsweek/Statista’s “America’s Best in State Hospitals” list for 2026.

University of Iowa Health Care placed second on the list, while Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids ranked fourth.

This marks the eighth time St. Luke’s has appeared on Newsweek’s Best Hospitals list since the rankings began in 2019, according to a news release.

“I am extremely proud of this honor,” said Casey Greene, UnityPoint Health – St. Luke’s Hospital president, in a statement. “This national recognition is a direct reflection on our dedicated team for their commitment to providing safe, quality care to our community.”

According to Newsweek, the rankings were determined using quality metrics from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the American Hospital Association Annual Survey of Hospitals Database, the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems patient experience surveys, and a voluntary Patient-Reported Outcome Measures implementation survey.

This year’s list highlights 800 leading hospitals nationwide. The awards list was announced in November and can be viewed on Newsweek’s website.
