Jody Reyes, former COO and vice president of Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, has been named the new COO of UI Health Care’s clinical enterprise.

“Jody has a proven track record of being an accountable leader with a reputation for leading multidisciplinary health care teams to achieve great outcomes,” said UI Health Care’s CEO Brad Haws. “As our health system evolves with the addition of new medical campuses, her experience and leadership skills will be instrumental in guiding our mission of bringing exceptional health care to more Iowans. We’re thrilled to have her join UI Health Care later this month.”

Ms. Reyes has more than 20 years of executive leadership experience within the health care sector and is a registered nurse who spent most of her clinical career in the oncology setting.

Prior to her current role, she served as interim COO at University of Virginia Medical Center before joining the leadership team at Penn State Health in Hershey, Pennsylvania, also holding various senior leadership positions within safety-net hospitals, National Cancer Institute-designated cancer centers, and the U.S. Navy. Currently, she serves as an advisory board member for Vizient’s Chief Operating Officer’s Network.

Becker’s Hospital Review named Ms. Reyes as “One of 60 Academic Medical Center COOs to Know” earlier this year, according to a UI Health Care news release.

“I am honored to serve as the next chief operating officer of UI Health Care,” Ms. Reyes said. “It is a privilege to join such a distinguished institution known for delivering exemplary health care services with a commitment to advancing medical research and education. I look forward to becoming part of the extraordinary team of health care professionals, caregivers, and physicians at UI Health Care as we build upon the strong foundation in place and navigate the opportunities ahead.”

As COO, Ms. Reyes will oversee the management of patient care operations, ancillary services, and related support services at UI Health Care. As part of her role, she will work with hospital leaders, department chairs, and others, developing and monitoring operational strategies that strengthen inpatient, outpatient, and surgical services within the clinical enterprise, which covers multiple medical campuses.

She takes the place of former COO Emily Blomberg, who announced her departure in April after taking a position as president of Regions Hospital and the Regions Hospital Foundation in her home state of Minnesota. Ms. Blomberg was UIHC’s COO for two years.
