The TrueNorth Legacy Foundation, a private 501c3 foundation, has completed its second annual grant cycle and announced the distribution of $527,000 to community causes for 2024. First established in 2021, the foundation announced its contributions in a news release on Wednesday.

“We live, work and play in amazing communities with all kinds of good things happening,” said Matt Evans, President of the TrueNorth Legacy Foundation Board of Directors, in the release. “I am incredibly proud to complete our second annual grant cycle with the TrueNorth Legacy Foundation, demonstrating how our giving pillars and grants create meaningful support and investment with organizations making a real difference.”

The foundation’s board approved more grant funding than originally planned for 2024, due to the additional generosity of individual contributors, the release states.

Grant recipients were chosen based on three key criteria: A demonstrated need and future vision of a transformational gift; an alignment with the Legacy Foundation’s core pillars of Children & Education, Vibrant Communities, Emergency Response & Preparedness; and championed from within the TrueNorth Companies and First Mainstreet, Inc. colleague base.

TrueNorth Legacy Foundation supported the following community initiatives in 2024:

  • Eastern Iowa Health Center, In-House Pharmacy Capital Campaign
  • YSS, Ember Recovery Campus–Maintenance Shop Capital Campaign
  • NewBo City Market, Next Level Local Capital Campaign
  • Coe College, Aviation Management and Flight Operations Program
  • The National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library, Clocktower Campaign

  • The Freedom Foundation, Patio Upgrade Project
  • Kolton’s Courts Capital Campaign
  • Redeemer Lutheran Preschool & Daycare, New Facility Capital Campaign
  • Iowa Dental Foundation, Iowa Mission of Mercy – Free Dental Clinic Project

“This being our second year of awarding grants, I am humbled by the number of organizations and causes our colleagues submitted for consideration,” said Anne Parmley, Community Impact Director and TrueNorth Legacy Foundation Board Member, in the release. “Their engagement demonstrates how committed our team members are to the communities in which they work and live. It’s rewarding to read how these organizations will use the funds they have been granted to make a sustainable impact within their communities. Proudly, I can speak for the foundation’s board when I say we can’t wait to see the vision of these organizations become reality.”
