Mount Mercy University, the Catherine McAuley Center and Mercy Medical Center will continue their annual tradition of community service with the eighth annual Circle the City With Mercy event on July 25.
The one-day initiative brings together volunteers from each of the three sister organizations to carry out a shared service project, commemorating the arrival of the Sisters of Mercy in Cedar Rapids in July 1875.
This year’s project will begin at 8:15 a.m. with a mass at the Mercy Chapel, followed by a kickoff program at 8:45 a.m. in the Hallagan Education Center at Mercy Medical Center. Volunteers will assemble 22,000 meals for Take Away Hunger, as well as 300 hygiene bags. The items will be distributed to the Cedar Rapids Community School District to support local students and families in need. Additional meals will be provided to the Catherine McAuley Center.
The event serves as a tangible demonstration of the organizations’ ongoing commitment to the Cedar Rapids community through shared values and service.
