Business leaders across Iowa are being asked to commit to making their workplaces more movement-friendly through a new statewide campaign.

The Iowa Healthiest State Initiative and the Physical Activity Alliance launched the CEO Pledge for Physical Activity Oct. 1 during the 15th Annual Healthiest State Walk at Water Works Park in Des Moines. The campaign encourages executives to adopt strategies that help employees stay active and healthy.

According to a release, several Iowa business leaders have already signed the pledge, including April Schmaltz, president and CEO of Delta Dental of Iowa; Jeremy Gosch, chairman and CEO of Hy-Vee; Nicole Crain, president of the Iowa Association of Business and Industry; Becky Woody, vice president of HealthPartners; Dave Keith, CEO of Wellabe; and Jim Plagge, president and CEO of Bank Iowa.

“When so much of our time is spent at work, it’s more important than ever for workplaces to prioritize employee well-being and accommodate physical activity,” said Jami Haberl, executive director of the Iowa Healthiest State Initiative. “Workplaces can set the tone and have a profound impact in the state. When leaders move, organizations follow.”

Business leaders can sign the pledge at www.iowahealthieststate.com/ceo-pledge. Participating organizations will receive monthly resources and strategies to promote physical activity, along with access to the CEO Pledge Toolkit. They will also receive statewide and national recognition through the Iowa Healthiest State Initiative and Physical Activity Alliance.
