The South of 6 Business District of Iowa City has announced the search for a new leader following the resignation of former Executive Director Angie Jordan.
Ms. Jordan stepped down from her two-year role in May, following a diagnosis of stage IV small cell carcinoma of the cervix.
The South of 6 Self-Supported Municipal Improvement District (SSMID) encompasses the business and nonprofit community south of Highway 6 at Keokuk Street, serving as a center for neighborhood retail, restaurants, services, and cultural entities. The executive director position is responsible for the nonprofit’s day-to-day operations and reports directly to the South of 6 SSMID Board of Directors.
According to a release from South of 6, the nonprofit is seeking a dynamic and innovative leader to make a significant impact on the district’s future. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated competencies in urban planning, leadership, project management, grant administration, strategic thinking, and economic development, the release states. They should also have a proven track record of building healthy and sustainable relationships across sectors.
The successful candidate will also work collaboratively on a new contracted program to support underestimated business owners, implementing a grant budget, and leading a diverse selection committee and process, as stated in the release. This program will complement and extend support to businesses within and outside of the SSMID boundaries.
According to the release, the new executive director will lead the renewal of the SSMID petition in the district and the collaborative, technical, and process required for its success. The executive director’s role is intended to advance the mission of the SSMID and overall improve the economic prosperity of the businesses, property owners, and residents within the district.
Applications for the position are due by August 16. Interested candidates can find more information on the Greater Iowa City website.
