Raising Cane’s has relaunched plans to develop a new restaurant location along Collins Road in Cedar Rapids. The restaurant will be built at 230 Collins Road NE, just west of Lindale Mall. It will be the second location in the Corridor for the Baton Rouge, Louisiana-based restaurant chain, which opened a restaurant at 2800 Commerce Drive in Coralville in April. A building permit for the restaurant was issued July 20, and Raising Cane’s spokesperson Julia Doyle said construction of the new restaurant is already under way. The site is expected to open in January 2023. The restaurant will feature a double drive-through to expedite customer service, along with an indoor seating area. The site is expected to employ about 100 workers, Ms. Doyle said. Raising Cane’s originally announced plans in 2019 to build a franchise restaurant at the Collins Road site after purchasing the property formerly occupied by Ryan’s Steakhouse. Those plans stalled in late 2021 due to ownership changes and design, and the company at that time said they would seek a new Cedar Rapids location. However, the restaurant is now being developed as a corporate-owned location at the originally-planned Collins Road site, Ms. Doyle said. Raising Cane’s was founded in 1996, specializing in hand-breaded chicken fingers. The rapidly-growing company now has over 600 locations in 33 U.S. states and territories and five other countries.
