Physicians’ Clinic of Iowa Urology (PCI Urology) has formed an exclusive surgical partnership with UnityPoint Health – St. Luke’s Hospital and Surgery Center Cedar Rapids, consolidating its inpatient and outpatient surgical procedures at the facility starting Sept. 1, 2025.

The partnership represents a strategic shift for PCI Urology, eastern Iowa’s longest-established urology practice, which will now perform all Cedar Rapids metro area surgeries exclusively at St. Luke’s facilities.

“High-quality surgical outcomes require communication, collaboration, and, most importantly, familiarity and comfort with the entire surgical team,” said Dr. Thomas Richardson, PCI urologist and the clinic’s president and chief medical officer. “Partnering with a hospital like St. Luke’s, which shares our commitment to surgical innovation and patient safety, allows us to elevate the level of care we deliver.”

The arrangement allows PCI Urology to utilize St. Luke’s robotic technology and surgical suites while maintaining its status as an independent medical group. The practice will continue outpatient services at the PCI Medical Pavilion and maintain operations at several critical access hospitals throughout the region.

PCI Urology employs six board-certified urologists and the region’s only certified urologic nurse practitioner, specializing in urinary tract disorders for pediatric and adult patients.

“We are thrilled to partner with this group of highly-skilled and specially-trained urologists,” said Casey Greene, UnityPoint Health – Cedar Rapids president. “This collaboration reflects our commitment to delivering exceptional healthcare and ensures patients in our community have continued access to innovative and high-quality surgical care right here in Cedar Rapids.”

St. Luke’s Hospital, a 532-bed facility founded in 1884, serves a seven-county area surrounding Cedar Rapids.

Physicians’ Clinic of Iowa, established in 1997, operates as one of Iowa’s largest specialty medical groups with more than 80 physicians, surgeons and mid-level providers across two medical pavilions in Cedar Rapids.
