According to a news release, Dr. Heffel is primarily focused on breast cancer reconstruction surgery for patients who have had a mastectomy as part of their breast cancer treatment. Together with the breast cancer team at Mercy’s Hall-Perrine Cancer Center, Dr. Heffel will aid in restoring patients’ physical appearance during what is often a difficult and emotional time. His areas of interest include implant-based breast reconstruction, autologous tissue-based breast reconstruction and microsurgical breast reconstruction.

Dr. Heffel also offers a variety of traditional plastic surgery procedures, including facial surgery, breast surgery, trunk surgery and extremity surgery.

After earning his doctoral degree from George Washington University, he completed residencies at UCLA Center for Health Sciences in General Surgery, as well as Jackson Memorial Hospital in Plastic and Reconstruction Surgery. He then completed a fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Microsurgery. Dr. Heffel is board certified in plastic surgery.

The new Mercy Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery Clinic is located on the second floor of Hall-Perrine Cancer Center, 701 10th St. SE, Cedar Rapids.
