More than 325 volunteers will come together to help their neighbors June 24-28 as Matthew 25 hosts the ninth annual Transform Week.

The week focuses on homeowners in the Taylor and Time Check neighborhoods who need support on home repairs and maintenance.

“We often talk about the work of Transform being construction, yard work and people with their tools,” Matthew 25 Executive Director Clint Twedt-Ball said in a release. “But perhaps the most important part is the tears. Every year we have homeowners that have been through the meat grinder of life. They’ve often faced unexpected medical issues, losses of jobs, abusive relationships and more. They can feel invisible and all alone. Then Matthew 25 shows up with random strangers who want to help their neighbors through their rough patch. Tears flow. Healing happens. A bond is created and hope rises. This is the real work of Transform.”

Matthew 25 volunteers will be tackling more than 35 projects this year, including exterior painting, roofing, replacing windows and doors, rebuilding stairs and porches, landscaping, and repairing fences and siding.

The annual Matthew 25 Transform campaign allows low-income homeowners to receive home repair and maintenance at no cost to them thanks to volunteer work, sponsorships and grants.

“I never thought I would be able to afford siding on my house,” said Jane Thompson, a homeowner who has lived on the SW side for 39 years. “It came as a nice shock!”
