Marion Times is ceasing publication, owner says

The Marion Times is ceasing publication, according to Bob Woodward of Woodward Communications, owner of the weekly publication.

According to a letter shared to readers, advertisers and the Marion community, Mr. Woodward announced that July 29 will be the newspaper’s final publication day. The Marion Today monthly publication will also cease publication.

In his letter, Mr. Woodward explains “it is a challenging time to be in the news media business,” pointing out competitors, such as Facebook, Google and Amazon, also vie for reader’s attention and advertising dollars.

Although the Marion Times will cease publication, Mr. Woodward said, “We believe wholeheartedly in the need for local community journalism and continue to own and operate many other newspapers and websites in northeast Iowa and Southwest Wisconsin.”

He concluded his letter by thanking the newspaper’s loyal readers and advertisers.
