The Long John Silver’s restaurant at 2630 Williams Blvd. SW in Cedar Rapids has now reopened after extensive renovation from a December 2023 fire that forced the restaurant to close.
The quick-service seafood restaurant now features a “fresh, vibrant interior,” company officials said in a news release announcing the reopening.
“We’re thrilled to welcome our guests back to our Cedar Rapids location,” said Jimmy Douglas, senior director of operations at Long John Silver’s. “With a sleek, modern look and welcoming atmosphere, we can’t wait for everyone to enjoy the updates we’ve made.”
The Long John Silver’s menu features a wide variety of seafood, from batter-dipped fish, chicken and shrimp to hushpuppies, grilled salmon and shrimp tacos, entree bowls and meals.
The restaurant is open Sunday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.
The restaurant sustained extensive damage in a fire Dec. 12, 2023, and despite extensive rumors that the restaurant wouldn’t reopen, company officials said in July that they were planning to reopen the location this year.
Records from the Linn County Assessor’s Office indicate that work has been underway since February to replace drywall ceilings in the customer service, kitchen and dishwashing areas, along with installing new grid ceilings and reframing an existing partition wall inside the building.
The Cedar Rapids restaurant was constructed for Long John Silver’s in 1973.
The Williams Boulevard restaurant is the only remaining Corridor location for Long John Silver’s. A previous Cedar Rapids location at 3801 First Ave. SE closed in June 2014 as part of a move to close eight Long John Silver’s restaurants statewide at that time.
The chain also operates Iowa locations in Clinton, Davenport, Urbandale, Des Moines, Council Bluffs and Sioux City. The company was founded in 1969 in Lexington, Kentucky, and the restaurant is named after Long John Silver from the Robert Louis Stevenson novel “Treasure Island.”
