Junior Achievement of Eastern Iowa has been selected as one of the few JA locations nationwide to pilot Financial Playbook by Junior Achievement of Eastern Iowa, a financial literacy program for young adults.
The program, developed in partnership with the Players Coalition, is aimed at people ages 18 to 25 and covers topics such as budgeting, saving, debt management, tax preparation and long-term goal setting. An optional lesson is available for student-athletes on managing Name, Image and Likeness income, including tax and financial implications.
According to a release, the curriculum is delivered through in-person workshops and is designed for students, as well as educators, coaches and mentors who work with them.
Carrie Pontzius, who is leading the effort for Junior Achievement of Eastern Iowa, said the program provides tools for making informed financial choices and preparing for future needs.
“Financial literacy is more than a life skill – it’s a game changer,” she said. “With Financial Playbook, we’re giving young adults and student-athletes the tools to avoid financial pitfalls, maximize opportunities, and confidently plan for the future – whether they’re in the classroom, on the field, or beginning their careers.”
Junior Achievement is seeking colleges, universities, athletic programs and community organizations to host workshops, along with volunteers – especially former athletes and financial professionals – to help deliver the program.
