Regional Studio Director Legat Architects, Iowa City AGE: 39 What was your first job? Detasseling corn in southeast Iowa. Best advice you ever received? You can find success and make a difference in an infinite number of fields, so find something you enjoy that is fulfilling and use the opportunities you have to make an impact. What do you consider your biggest break so far? Being hired for my current position and being given the opportunity to build and grow a local studio that is aligned with our community needs.  What would most people be surprised to learn about you? I am an Iowa State graduate, and as much as I support my alma mater, I’m an even bigger Hawkeye sports fan and have cheered on the Black and Gold my entire life. I also have a lot of family in Alabama and am a lifelong fan of the Crimson Tide. What’s the biggest issue facing the Corridor, and why? There are a lot of critical issues we face in the Corridor, but specific issues that I’m able to address in my profession include reducing our impact on the environment through sustainable design and increasing access to affordable housing. If you had $1 million to give, what causes would you support? A few that I’d love to continue to support include United Way, Habitat for Humanity, Big Brothers Big Sisters, University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital, Beat the Streets wrestling program and the animal shelter. What are your passions outside of the workplace? Spending time with family and friends. I also love traveling and experiencing new places and cultures and enjoy completing home remodeling projects. What’s something people should know about your generation in the workplace?  We are adaptable and resilient, care deeply about our work and want to make an impact in our fields and communities. What do you want to accomplish by the time you are 50? Professionally, I’d like to continue designing architectural projects that exceed clients’ expectations, enhance  our communities and reduce our impact on the environment.
