A new pilot program from the Iowa City Housing Authority aims to provide safe, stable housing for 19 Johnson County households. The initiative uses Mainstream Vouchers to support eligible individuals with disabilities and families with permanent housing solutions.
The housing authority will pay property owners $1,000 for leasing to adult households and $2,000 for households with children. The one-time incentives are available while funding lasts.
“This pilot program is a meaningful way to open more housing opportunities for residents who need them most,” said Rachel Carter, housing authority administrator. “We appreciate the landlords who are stepping forward to be part of the solution to housing instability in our community.”
The housing authority has partnered with Shelter House to administer the Mainstream Voucher program. Shelter House provides case management and supportive services including assistance with income and benefit applications, mental and physical health coordination, and life skills development.
