
According to a study conducted by the real estate site New Jersey Real Estate Network, Iowa has the fourteenth-highest rate of homeownership increase over the last decade nationwide.
The study, as stated in a release from Journo Research, analyzed U.S. census data from 2014 to 2024 on the percentage of homeowners in each state, to identify where experienced the highest rise and decline in rates.
In 2022, Iowa’s homeownership rate was at its highest over the last decade at 76.8%. The U.S. Census Bureau’s 2022 Housing Vacancy Survey, reported the national homeownership rate at 65.9%, leaving Iowa over ten points above the country’s average.
The homeownership rate in Iowa now stands at 72.4%, compared to 69.2% in 2014.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, which lists Iowa’s population as 3.2 million in 2020, approximately 2.3 million people are currently homeowners in the state.
With a total percentage rise of 4.62% over the last ten years, Iowa comes in fourteenth behind West Virginia at 4.68% and ahead of Tennessee at 4.53%.
New Mexico reported the largest increase in homeownership over the last decade, increasing by 11.42%.
