Healing Prairie Farm, a collaboration between CommUnity Crisis Services and United Action for Youth (UAY), will host a hygge open house Jan. 27 from 1-4 p.m.

Hygge (pronounced hoo-gah), is a Danish word for something that feels cozy, warm, and caring.

Staff from CommUnity Crisis Services and UAY will be stationed around the farm to chat about youth crisis stabilization programs and answer questions about the farm. Attendees can enjoy soup from local restaurants, hot cider, hot cocoa and a bonfire, weather permitting. A variety of crafts will be available to welcome youth.

Healing Prairie Farm, the former site of nature-based preschool Kinderfarm, was developed to provide a safe, supportive space for youth to stay when facing a crisis. The farm will welcome homeless and trafficked youth and those facing a mental health crisis.

A Sept. 7 article by the Gazette said the farm was purchased for $1.2 million with funding from the East Central Region and was an inspiration after Four Oaks closed two shelters.

The farm is located at 5048 US-6 in Iowa City, and those wishing to attend can RSVP at https://forms.gle/4r3WxWwnr4G6WBKM8.
