Greater Iowa City, Inc. (Greater IC) has reaffirmed its commitment to local businesses and entrepreneurs through continued investment in the Business Resource Center (BRC) — a free, walk-in support hub located inside MERGE in downtown Iowa City.
The BRC connects business owners with professionals in marketing, finance, business coaching, technology, and more to help them navigate real-world challenges.
Launched in 2024, the BRC has quickly become a vital resource for business owners across Johnson County, according to a release. With a rotating network of subject matter experts available throughout the week, the BRC delivers hands-on guidance in areas like HR, legal, e- commerce, branding, and beyond, giving business owners immediate access to the help they need.
“The Business Resource Center is a free resource in Johnson County for small business owners, entrepreneurs, and nonprofits to step in and get access to experts in their field,” said Robin Springer, a business coach with the BRC. “You can schedule time to come in, ask questions, and get real guidance. And if we don’t have the answer, we’ll help you findsomeone who does.”
Business owner Macy Krall, founder of 223 Baby in downtown Iowa City, credits the BRC with helping her translate a grant into real financial growth.
“I met with a business coach through the BRC who helped me focus my grant money on products that actually generate profit,” Ms. Krall said. “That guidance made a huge difference. We were able to buy more inventory than usual, and it gave us the boost we needed after a tough construction year. The people there were amazing, and I can’t wait to go back.”
The BRC’s structure is simple: walk in or reserve a time online, and meet with vetted localprofessionals offering guidance to solve problems or prepare businesses to effectively seek additional professional services. The resource is powered by Greater IC’s commitment to building an inclusive, connected, and resilient local economy.
