The Eastern Iowa Airport (CID) reported a record number of passengers in April, with 125,992 travelers passing through the terminal – a 10% increase over April 2024.
It marks the fourth consecutive monthly record and brings year-to-date passenger totals up 8% compared to the same period last year, the airport announced Wednesday.
Eastern Iowa Airport Director Marty Lenss credited sustained airline investments and increased capacity for the growth. Allegiant Air resumed seasonal nonstop routes to Nashville and Los Angeles in May, bolstering summer travel options.
“We are anticipating another busy summer as people look to book summer travel,” Mr. Lenss said.
The airport’s terminal modernization project remains on track for completion this fall. The full concourse is expected to be operational in time for Thanksgiving travel.
In a separate announcement, the Eastern Iowa Airport will partner with the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Chapter 33 to host International Young Eagles Day on June 14. The event will take place at 9430 Shepard Court SW from 9 a.m. to noon.
As part of the program, local volunteer pilots will offer free flights for youth ages 8 to 17. Pre-registration is required via the EAA website.
Kirkwood Community College and Coe College will also participate in the event. Representatives from their aviation programs will be on-site with open hangars to provide information about careers in aviation maintenance, flight operations, and aviation management.
The Wich-Uh-Waffle food truck will be on hand, and the event is free and open to the public. Parking signage will be posted for attendees.
