The Eastern Iowa Airport recorded its seventh consecutive record month for passenger traffic in July, with totals coming in 6% higher than July 2024, the airport announced Aug. 27.

Year-to-date passenger traffic is up 9% compared with the same period last year.

“With additional seats in the market for holiday travel, CID is on pace to set its third consecutive annual total passenger record,” Airport Director Marty Lenss said in a release. The airport reported 1.4 million passengers in 2023 and 1.5 million in 2024.

Mr. Lenss credited airlines and travelers for driving the growth.

“When passengers fill those seats, it shows the airlines that CID is the place to add capacity on existing routes and look at adding potential new routes,” he said.

American Airlines will resume its seasonal Saturday-only flight from Cedar Rapids to Miami International Airport on Nov. 8. The airline also plans to add a third daily nonstop flight to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport in December.

Special flights are being added for the upcoming University of Iowa football season. American Airlines will operate a nonstop to Philadelphia for the Penn State game in Iowa City on Oct. 18. Delta Air Lines has added flights for the Oregon game in Iowa City on Nov. 8, the USC game in Los Angeles on Nov. 15, and the Michigan State game in Iowa City on Nov. 22.

The Eastern Iowa Airport currently offers nonstop service to 18 destinations through Allegiant, American, Delta, Frontier and United Airlines. It is also served by FedEx, DHL and UPS for air cargo.
