Downtown Iowa City high-rises return to credit union; no bids received at sheriff sale

GreenState Credit Union remains mum on what happens next

  • The Chauncey, at 404 E. College St., is Iowa City's tallest building at 15 stories. The high-rise is home to Hotel Chauncey, FilmScene, SpareMe! Bowl & Arcade, fix! Coffee and several office and residential units.

    The Chauncey, and other prominent downtown Iowa City high-rises at the center of a foreclosure suit, will return to GreenState Credit Union after receiving no bids during a Johnson County sheriff sale Nov. 18.

    Approximately 35-40 people attended the sale, held outside the Johnson County Sheriff’s office at 511 S. Capitol St. The sheriff’s office received one letter to bid prior to the start of the sale.
