Culver’s restaurant is planning to bring its frozen custard and burgers to North Liberty next summer.
At its meeting Sept. 9, the North Liberty City Council approved a preliminary site plan for a 4,815 square-foot Culver’s restaurant and drive-thru on a 1.5 acre lot between West Penn Street and Lininger Lane, and 230 feet east of Heartland Way.
In an email to the CBJ, applicant Brenden White said the goal is to break ground in December and open by June 2026. The owners of the Coralville and Iowa City Culver’s locations will have a joint ownership with Mr. White, who will serve as the North Liberty location’s owner-operator.
Council documents stated there would be no direct access to West Penn Street, and a provided rendering of the building shows Lininger Lane as the access road.
“The site and building are well-designed and will fit well along the Penn Street Corridor,” council documents stated.
The Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously recommended approval of the request at its Sept. 2 meeting, and the city council approved the preliminary site plan 4-0 with council member Erek Sittig abstaining.
