Collins Aerospace is conducting a “small reduction of positions” via layoffs in Cedar Rapids, company officials confirmed Friday.

A company spokesperson issued an official statement Friday regarding the layoffs.

“To ensure we are best positioned to address our customers’ greatest needs now and into the future, we are taking actions to reduce costs and optimize our organizational structure,” the statement said. “This includes conducting a small reduction of positions. These actions will allow us to reinvest in high-priority programs, reduce complexity and increase efficiency to better meet the strong demand for aerospace and defense products.”

The spokesperson declined to provide further details about Cedar Rapids positions, but said the company was cutting “a small number of positions across North America.”

No specific information on the most recent layoffs had been posted to the Iowa Workforce Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) act website Friday, but a WARN notice dated Sept. 30 listed a “mass layoff” of two Collins Aerospace employees in Cedar Rapids, effective Oct. 31.

It’s the third announced layoff of the year at Collins Aerospace facilities in Iowa. In March, Collins announced it had laid off 160 workers from its operations in Cedar Rapids, effective April 14. And in June, the company announced it was laying off a total of 131 employees, including 102 employees at the company’s Cedar Rapids location and 29 at the Decorah location. Workers were notified June 12, and the layoffs were effective July 18.
